If you don’t finish a bottle of wine in one sitting, you will need to know how to store it properly so it won’t go bad. To save your wine, you just need to invest in a few products to preserve the remainder of the bottle.
This video shows you how to store both sparkling and regular wines. Specially designed caps for sparkling wines are available that help the carbonation last. With non-sparkling wines, you should use a hand pump to remove as much oxygen as possible before recapping the bottle. Wine will generally last 3-4 days after opening when stored properly.
Stirling Fine Wines offers a great selection of white, red, and sparkling wines for any taste and budget. Check us out online or call (908) 649-0084 for more information.

Well-made Sangria is a pleasure to drink. The medley of red wine, orange liqueur, and fresh juice is a delicious treat. Unfortunately, the Sangria that some people have been served is an overly-syrupy concoction made with low quality ingredients. If you want to make a splash at your next party, amaze your friends with this Sangria recipe from mixologist, Jeffery Morgenthaler:
- 750 ml (1 bottle) red wine
- ¾ cup orange liqueur
- 1 cup fresh-squeezed orange juice
- 1 ounce 2:1 sugar syrup
- 1 tsp. Angostura Bitters
Mix together these ingredients in a large pitcher garnished with fresh fruit slices to create a batch of about 8 servings.
- Red Wine: When choosing a red wine, many people choose a lighter wine, like pinot noir. This is a mistake when making sangria. The red wine serves as the backbone of the Sangria’s flavor, so pick a wine with a stronger flavor, such as a cabernet or Shiraz.
- Orange Liqueur: Orange liqueur, such as Triple Sec, Grand Marnier, or Cointreau, will complement the orange juice and give the wine-based Sangria a little bit of a punch. It is important to choose a higher-quality liqueur, such as Grand Marnier or Cointreau, as higher-quality ingredients help produce a tastier beverage.
- Sugar Syrup: You can purchase sugar syrup from most grocery stores. If you want to make your own, simply combine two parts sugar with one part warm water. Mix the two until the sugar is completely dissolved, and place it in an airtight container. If you prefer a less-sweet Sangria, combine equal parts sugar and water to make 1:1 syrup and use 1 ½ ounces of this concoction in your recipe.
Making your own Sangria is a great way to impress your friends at any gathering. For more information about Sangria, or for help choosing a red wine, give us a call at (908) 649-0084. Franciscan Cabernet 2007:
- “A terrific wine that proves you don’t have to spend a fortune for a top-flight Napa Valley Cabernet. It’s deeply flavored, brooding young wine, filled with exciting blackberry, cassis and mineral flavors. Big in tannins, yet with a very refined, classy mouthfeel, it should begin to hit its stride after 2014.”
- 94 Points - Wine Enthusiasts.
- Originally $26.99 on sale for $18.99.

Even as summer comes to a close, the trend in cocktailing is still focused on refreshing summertime seasonal cocktails. Many times, this means that classic cocktails are pushed aside for the margarita and the daiquiri. People often overlook the wide range of summertime cocktails that are really enjoyable during the season. Take a look at the recipes for three classic cocktails that are fabulous all season long:
- Tom Collins: There are many variations on the Tom Collins cocktail, but the classic combination of gin and lemon juice is still a winner. Combine 1 ½ ounces of gin with ¾ of an ounce of fresh lemon juice and ½ ounce of sugar syrup. Shake over ice and strain into an ice-filled highball glass, topping the drink off with chilled soda water. Garnish with a lemon wedge and enjoy.
- The Sidecar: Another classic cocktail, the Sidecar is a shaken cocktail that combines 1 ½ ounces of Cognac with 1 ounce of orange liqueur, such as Triple Sec or Cointreau, and ½ ounce of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Shake over ice and strain into a chilled, sugar-rimmed cocktail glass.
- Cosmopolitan: A classic American cocktail, the Cosmopolitan is a fantastic cocktail to enjoy when the sun goes down. Shake 1 ½ ounces of citrus vodka, ¾ ounce orange liqueur, the juice of half a lime, and ½ teaspoon of sugar syrup. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a lemon or orange twist.
Summertime cocktailing is about lighter, refreshing ingredients, and these three cocktails are perfect examples of alternatives to the oh-so-common daiquiris and margaritas.
